Onychomycosis is an infectious lesion of the nail plates. It is characterized by severe itching, peeling of the surrounding skin, deformation of the keratin layer and an unpleasant odor. At the initial stage, simple folk medicine, prepared on the basis of celandine, will cope with it. They quickly destroy the pathogenic microflora, clean the surface of the nail from bacteria and microbes, and also accelerate its recovery after the end of the course of therapy.
Chemical composition of grass
Celandine is a perennial plant that has the shape of a low shrub. Distributed throughout Russia and the CIS countries. If you break its stem, then bright orange juice will flow from it. It is in this liquid that contains a large number of useful components of the herb, which help to combat mycoses of nails and skin on the legs.
The chemical composition of the plant includes:
- essential oils;
- a number of organic acids (malic, succinic, citric).
Helidonin is also present in celandine. This is a toxic alkaloid that destroys the structure of pathogenic microorganisms. In a small amount, it helps to fight onychomycosis, but its overdose can cause convulsions, migraines and fainting.
You can learn more about plant properties from the video at the end of the article.
The plant is allowed to use for the treatment of mycosis of nails and skin of the legs at the initial and secondary stages. The grass is used in its pure form, passing through a meat grinder, or various medicines are prepared on its basis.
The plant inhibits the activity of the fungus, while simultaneously stopping the reproduction of its spores. Because of this, the infection does not spread to healthy areas of the skin and nails. In addition, the use of solutions from shrub extract contributes to the rapid restoration of the epidermis and keratin, heals scratches, wounds. Still celandine has an anti-inflammatory and drying effect, weakens severe pain, removes suppuration.
Celandine nail fungus treatment is slightly different from skin therapy between the toes or heels. Keratin surfaces have a higher density than the epidermis, which means it will be more difficult for the drug to penetrate into them. Here the result depends entirely on the preparatory measures. Before processing, the legs must be steamed, the plates are trimmed and cleaned with nail files. It is also necessary to remove the remnants of cosmetic varnish from them.
Precautions and contraindications
Celandine can be used externally without fear, since it acts only at the local level and does not enter the bloodstream. The only contraindication is allergy. You can check the presence of individual intolerance to the grass in a simple way: 1 drop of juice is applied to the elbow bend, if no rash, burning and other allergic reactions appear within 30 minutes, then there are no restrictions.
If negative reactions of the body to the plant are detected, it is not worth despairing. Any pharmacy can offer a medicinal analogue – balm Mountain celandine. There is no grass of the same name, only extracts of Altai herbs and acid. Onychomycosis should be treated with this agent for at least 2 weeks, using several times daily. The cost of the drug is 70-90 rubles.
Still on sale you can find solutions called Superchistotel and Super celandine. Release form – drops. These medicines are not intended to combat nail fungus. They contain burning substances that remove viral neoplasms, but not pathogenic microflora. If you spread a nail on them, it will collapse and fall away.
How to use celandine for toenail fungus
It helps in the fight against fungal infections that hit the nails, fresh celandine juice. For the procedure, it is required to find a growing bush, a branch from which is cracked, and the released liquid on the scrape is applied to the focus of mycosis. Manipulation is repeated at least 2 times a day. Treatment lasts from 2 weeks to several months.
Celandine juice at home will easily eliminate the initial stage of nail mycosis. In more complex cases, you will need to take antifungal drugs.
The only negative of this method is that fresh stems are always needed. But this problem can be solved by transplanting a street plant into a flower pot. It is better to keep the "room" celandine on the windowsills on the south side. Weed loves the sun and moderate watering.
If there is no living plant at hand, then you can use recipes based on raw materials prepared in advance.
To remove the fungus is capable of oil from celandine. Often this remedy is recommended to alternate with freshly squeezed plant juice. Therapy lasts until a new nail grows. You can buy a ready-made pharmaceutical drug, but it is much cheaper to prepare the medicine yourself according to the following scheme:
- Mix the dried celandine with olive, canola or sunflower oil;
- Pour the resulting mixture into a pan and steam for 3 hours in a water bath;
- Strain and clean the liquid in a dark, cool place. After three hours, the product is ready for use.
Oil is applied to the diseased plate and covered with a film. Some healers recommend not just lubricating problem areas, but applying cotton wool soaked in the medicine to them. The finger is covered with a film and bandaged with a bandage. Woolen socks are put on the feet. Under the influence of heat, the pores open, and the celandine easily penetrates the nail cavity.
The compress is left for 30 minutes, after which the feet are rinsed with water. The procedure is carried out 3 times a day. Treatment lasts 3-4 weeks.
Nail and skin mycosis can be treated well with celandine decoction. To prepare the product, you will need either dried or fresh grass. Any raw material is poured with water (5 tbsp. L. For 2 liters), cooked and infused for 20 minutes. To enhance the properties of the main component, you can add a little alcohol to the broth and insist it for three days, but this is not necessary.
The resulting fluid is recommended for compresses and baths. It can soar limbs or used as a means to rinse the feet. In both cases, it is heated to 43 degrees, poured into a basin where feet are dipped for 15 minutes.
Official medicine recognizes celandine effective in the treatment of dermatological diseases, so in pharmacies you can find a lot of funds based on this herb. Very popular is alcohol tincture (price about 30 rubles). You can buy a ready-made product or cook it at home. When choosing the last option, you need to remember that you only need fresh stems, collected and frozen in advance in the freezer.
The branches are removed, left to thaw, and then grind in a meat grinder. The porridge is wrapped in several layers of gauze and squeezed. Cake can be thrown away, it will not come in handy, and the juice is diluted in alcohol (1 to 1 ratio). Since the plant stains the skin in a dark color, it is necessary to work with it with gloves.
Alcohol solution is infused for 24 hours. To do this, the container is placed in a cool and dark place.
There is another simple option for preparing the infusion, only it uses pure body oil instead of juice. 25 drops of the extract are added to a glass of alcohol and infused for 1-2 days. In the finished medicine, a cotton swab is moistened and the nails with the surrounding skin are treated. This should be done 2 times a day. The course of treatment is 3 weeks.
Steaming nails with a solution of celandine
Baths are the basis for the treatment of fungal infections on the legs. The fight against mycosis of nails thanks to them becomes more enjoyable and effective. Water procedures soften and moisturize the skin, clean the nail plates, and prevent the reproduction of spores.
Preparing a solution for steaming follows from 3 liters of water and celandine essential oil. The extract is added in the amount of 1 tablespoon to 0.5 pure liquid. You can use freshly squeezed juice instead of butter. The procedure for steaming the feet lasts 15-30 minutes. All this time the water should be as hot as possible (up to 45 degrees).
After steaming, you can grease the plates with an antimycotic or apply compresses soaked in celandine broth to the feet.
Lemon and Celandine Mix
Lemon will enhance the properties of celandine and help to quickly destroy the bacteria and many types of fungi that provoke mycosis on the nails. First you need to make celandine oil or buy a finished one, after which lemon juice is squeezed. For one teaspoon of citrus liquid is 2 drops of medicinal herb oil.
The finished product is lubricated both the nails and the foot. Processing can be carried out up to three times a day for a month.
Vinegar and Celandine
This recipe needs dry grass. Raw materials (a whole pack) are poured into a jar with a wide neck and poured with vinegar 9% (0.5 liters). Against the fungus in neglected form, you can take a 40% concentration of acid. The medicine is infused in a cold place for exactly 10 days. After that, the solution is filtered through gauze or a fine sieve and 5 large tablespoons of salt are added to it. Next, the composition must be thoroughly mixed.
This tool is used several times a day. Before use, it is necessary to steam out the feet – the skin should be cleaned of dirt. Then a cotton swab is moistened in the mixture and it is applied over the nail for 5 minutes, no more. At the end of the limb, rinse with a decoction of celandine and dry on their own. The procedure must be carried out in the morning and in the evening. Over time, the morning processing of the plates can be canceled.
The course of treatment is quite long – 6 months.
If the remedy with celandine provokes discomfort (burning, rash and tingling occurs), then it is necessary to reduce the concentration of vinegar or replace it with malic acid. It is possible that a person has too sensitive skin for this medicine.
Do-it-yourself anti-mycotic ointment
Fresh stems, roots and flowers are ground in a blender. Any melted fat is added. Everything is mixed, it turns out a cream that is applied to the nails and adjacent skin.
Therapy takes from 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the degree of neglect of onychomycosis. If after 10 days there are no changes, you need to go to the doctor.
A mixture of celandine juice and iodine
Potassium iodide is an effective antibacterial agent. An alcohol solution based on this component can eliminate not only microbes, but also fungi. The effect of iodine becomes noticeable if the antiseptic is mixed with celandine. As a result of this, it will be possible not only to remove mycosis, but also to strengthen the nail and accelerate its growth.
You can also use this recipe:
- Gruel is prepared from the plant. To do this, the stems are either kneaded with a rolling pin, or passed through a meat grinder;
- 2 drops of iodine are poured into a greenish-brown slurry;
- The mixture is laid out on a piece of sterile gauze or bandage;
- Compress is applied to the sore spot for 10 minutes.
In a week of such treatment, the initial stage of onychomycosis will completely disappear. Together with it, itching, burning and other symptoms of the fungus will go away.
Also, folk healers recommend diluting a spoonful of baking soda in a liter of water, and then add the same amount of salt. At the end, 10 drops of grass juice and Iodinol are dripped. The feet are steamed in the solution for 10 minutes, then dried and lubricated with celandine oil. The procedures are carried out 2 times a day. Treatment takes about 3 weeks.
Celandine treatment reviews
Maxim, 24 years old.
He cured the nail fungus on the big toe with folk remedies, the recipes of which were taken at a medical forum. I basically didn’t want to buy medicines from the pharmacy. The therapy was comprehensive. In the morning the limb soared for 15 minutes in a soda-salt bath, then applied cotton wool moistened with celandine oil to the plate.
The compress was worn all day. In the evening, the bandage was removed and the foot again soared in a solution of sea salt and sodium carbonate. Such intensive treatment lasted 2 weeks. The patient’s nail was teary, and instead a healthy one grew.
Maria, 41 years old.
Last time I treated a fungus on nails last summer. I spent the whole season in the country, so the medicine was at hand. 2 times a day, the stem of the weed was torn off, squeezed out the juice and greased the plate with it. Hands, of course, were stained, but reached the main goal – the fungus receded. The method is good, but only suitable for people living in rural areas.
Oksana, 36 years old.
I have been treating advanced mycosis of the nail on the right leg for 2 months. I learned about the method of using celandine from a friend, she praised the tincture, which she herself prepared. I do everything according to her advice, but no result. Apparently, you need to go to the doctor.
